There was a minute’s silence in Pollock Park ahead of Lurgan RFC v City of Derry for former past president Ronnie Jordan who passed away recently.
Jordan, a rock of the 1XV for many years will be fondly remembered and missed by all at Lurgan RFC.
The 1XV went on to secure 5 points with a superb 33-19 win in what was an entertaining affair in Pollock Park.
There was lots of young talent on display when the U12 boys lined out against a strong Newry RFC. The lads didn’t get the result but there were excellent performances by Daniel Henry, Charlie Robinson, Jonah Burns and Tommy Lavery to name but a few
Mixed fortunes for the Ports
Portadown 1XV suffered a heavy defeat on the road against a resurgent Enniskillen. The final score was 49-0 and a day the ports will be keen to move on from.
Meanwhile the 3XV had much more success against Banbridge, coming away with a hard earned 22-37 win on the road.
The U18s had a battle on their hands against a powerful Carrick team. The lead changed hands several times throughout but it was the Ports who held on for a tense 29-25 victory.
The U16s battled hard against Carrick U16 however despite bright spells in the game, it was Carrick who came away on the right side of the 29-15 scoreline.
Local company Manfreight extended their support for Portadown RFC by becoming title sponsor for the 1XV. Manfreight also sponsor the Panthers, Minis, Youth Academy and senior Women and their support is hugely appreciated by all at the club.
