Manus Lappins local rugby roundup

Portadown women proved too strong for a spirited Lurgan side who went down 15-43 to their local rivals.

Despite Lurgan scoring first, it was Portadown who responded with a fine score from Sofia Jackson to level the scores.
Both teams traded scores until the experience of Portadown showed with scores from Jo McMorris-Cloughley, Hannan Mardell (2) and Rachel Tottenham with Ellen Finnegan-McMahon on target with the boot to close out the victory.

Meanwhile the Lurgan Men 1XV suffered a heavy 15-38 defeat against a resurgent Bangor side in Pollock Park.

It was scores aplenty for Portadown 2XV and 3XV who both clocked up impressive results at the weekend. The 2XV were on the road against Ballymena and it was the visitors who took a well earned 19-26 win on the road.
Meanwhile the 3XV hosted Monaghan at Chambers park. Both sides racking up lots of scores but it was the home side who took the ‘W’ with 60 points to Monaghan’s 40.

It was a special day to remember for young Portadown College man Callum Doak who made his senior team debut for the College scoring a try on debut. It was one of many for Portadown College who held their Lurgan counterparts scoreless with an impressive 40-0 win at the final whistle. It was a tough day for the Lurgan men, but they will learn a lot from the experience, no doubt improving every step of the way.
